Background
Recently purchased Sony HDR-V1U. Inexperienced.
Filming backcountry ski descents. Up to 6000 vertical feet. Lining up on opposing ridgelines up to 1-2 miles away.
Camera has continual shake and we have difficulty panning smoothly. we can ski, however.

Issues
1. With the Steadyshot feature set at either"standard" or "hard" we are still finding that there is a background shake in the image when the camera is fully zoomed in. We will often be filming at full zoom to capture the skier up close. Please advise regarding the following:

a. how to have a steadier image at full zoom.

b. recommend a tripod with a smooth glide to improve our panning.

2. Telephoto Lens needed. The current lens does not allow us to focus as closely on the skier as we would like from across the valley. Please suggest an additional lens to purchase and advise if this will further increase the unsteadiness of the image.

Thank you.
