With Sony's HDV tapestock what's the difference between the HDM-63VG and the DVM-63HD other than that HDM-63VG tapes costs cheaper??? Anyone know? I shoot with the Sony HVR-Z1U for live events.

Go with the cheaper tape. Expensive HDV tape is like Monster cable, marketing gimmicks. You get the same relability as more expensive tapes.

I've had horrible luck with Sony media across the board, regardless of price or supposed quality.
