Where does everyone get sound effects? I.E. guns, cars, lasers

That depends on your budget and location.

There are simple multi-CD Collections of FX and Foley work available from various companies - from those catering for hobbyists, up to the BBC publishing selected parts of its sound catalogue for the public - google around for those.

We once generated a mix of bird songs as BG from an ornithological research publication that came supplied with a sound sample. So the sources can vary from the obvious to the obscure... B)

Of course, you can also ask a sound artist to create your own effects, which is relatively easy technically with computer-assistance today than it was 20 years ago (my neighbour does it as a hobby now on his Mac :huh: ), but talent-wise, the work might differ in quality - so choice and selection matter for you, too. But that depends on where you are based geographically.
