Canon Auto Zoom 518 SV

I have just purchased a Canon 518 SV Super 8mm camera, but it didn't come with the users manual. I figured out almost everything except for two threaded holes. One on the side and one on the front. You can see them in the attached pictures. Can anyone tell me what these are for? I know they are not for the remote cable, as that's near the back of the camera and is labeled as such.

I know they are not for the remote cable, as that's near the back of the camera and is labeled as such.


Cameras of that period usually feature two means of off-body operations:
- A remote control plug which you have identified to the rear of the camera
- A cable release socket for using exactly that: a cable release.

I would suggest that the front-side cable release socket is for continuous running (a remote trigger, if you want), weheras the cable release socket to the side labelled '1' is for single frame releases.
