Hi. I am starting a DP job at the end of the month and the director has asked me if we can make a few red objects really stand out like in "American Beauty". I am considering several possible ways to do this including in production and in post, but any help or advice would be really great, Thanks - Jono

One thing that can really help is your art direction. In scenes where you want these colors to really pop, don't have other extremely vibrant colors clashing for attention on screen. Not only will this help the colors stand out to begin with, it can also help you single them out in Post if you want to increase saturation etc...

Agreed, art direction is the key here.
In American beauty the Reds were often the primary color in the frame.
Also remember the eye looks for contrast, chromatic and luminance based, to make the red "brighter," in frame w/o sacrificing saturation.

Post and power windows can also help when art direction and the like falls through.
