Yahoo has HD trailers of the Ashes of Time Redux re-edit here: http://movies.yahoo....5/video/9014788

It's interesting to see the varying degrees of image quality that are quite noticable in the 1080p version. I don't know if it's true but I read that Wong Kar Wai used various source material, almost as if the original camera negatives were lost? Perhaps someone can clear this up.

I'm hoping for a theatrical run of this because the old DVD transfer is so bad. Here's a Wong Kar Wai quote from a Fortissimo Films press release:

"The original release of ASHES OF TIME marked the beginning of my long-standing partnership with Fortissimo Films. I'm very pleased to see our relationship come full circle with the release of my re-envisioning of the film. ASHES OF TIME is a film I am very proud of and I am excited to finally be able to present it in the manner it was originally conceived."

HD versions of the trailer: 480p 720p 1080p

Good god, the images look absolutely awful. :(

But like you say, the DVD is even ten times worse. Man, did they run the neg through the laundry machine or what?? A lot of this looks worse than super 8 or a canon xl1.
