I am a student trying to get into the Camera Department, what kind of the gear and items would you suggest to get in the beginning?

I have already ordered Douglas C. Hart's "The Camera Assistant" for starters. ;)

While you are ordering books, pick up the American Cinematographers Manual. In the 9th Edition, page 84, is a chapter titled, "Preparation of Motion Picture Equipment" written by Marty Ollstein, Michael Hofstein, & Tom Fraser. On page 98 there is a subsection called 'Tools'. It is here you will find an in-depth list of necessary and 'just in case' items. Many will not carry all of these items around, but the most prepared will.

It's a fantastic list and mainly revolves around the care of the camera, so if you are looking to 1st AC this is a definite read.

Did you do a search of the forum first? There are a number of similar threads on the site with a lot of good info...

Thanks for the replies! I'll have to go check on the other threads. Is there a link with some templates of camera logs?

Thanks again
