This cable is said to be a power cable for the ACL.

It has a 4-pin xlr on one end, but the other end i have never seen before.

Is the odd connector for specific battery packs?

Thanks-
Nicholas

Yeah, that is the Eclair connector that plugs to the camera and the 4 pin XLR goes to the battery. Did your camera come with 4 pin XLR connector? Or both, like Aatons do?

Pretty sure mine has both. I definitely have the xlr on my eclair, and i'm pretty sure i have the other connection right below it.

Is there any known advantage of either connection?

Thanks-

The smaller connector is known as a Jaeger connector. The contact pins are usually factory crimped to the cable wires making subsequent repair or replacement impractical. A defective connector or cable means discarding the whole thing. The XLR type has soldered connections which make repair in the field much easier.

Cheers,
Jean-Louis

Don't think there is any advantage other than using the dedicated cable pictured above. At some point, before 4 pin xlr connectors were the norm, perhaps the Eclair connector was the only way to get power to the camera. Later, as 4 pin xlr became the new game in town, Eclair and later Aaton cameras started having both.
