Ghost Images on 16mm (no CG)

I've got a 16mm short coming up in Jan-Feb and i'm trying to work out how to do an effect. The character is seeing Ghosts in a space ship and they need to walk through him. I was looking at trying double exposure, but that seems risky considering I am still a novice at shooting 16mm. Any suggestions?
note, this is a school project with a small budget.

using 16mm allowes you to very easily multiple expose, as you can not offset the exposures (as opposed to 35mm), but you will only see the effect on screen.
if you are in school better try both techniques for the same effect. it will be a joy.
