So, my wife comes home tonight and says she's volunteered me to shoot a chorus recital for my daughter's grade school class this Saturday night. I've got one of these little EX1 Sony cameras, and she thought because it's a High Def digital camera, I really wouldn't have to do anything but put it on a tripod and walk away. After all, with digital, you really don't have to do anything, right? <_<

Anyway, I'm trying to put together some shooting scheme that actually lets me cut something in FCP. I have this EX1, plus my old Canon GL2 which I could hopefully put on a tripod to shoot a wide shot and mix this footage with whatever I can get from the EX1.

Would anyone out there have a recommendation on how to dumb down the EX1 quality setting to sort of match the GL2. I have no idea what the GL2 shoots, just going to guess it's 29.97. The only interlaced setting on the EX1 is at 1080/60i. It looks kind of video-ish to my eyes, like it might work with the GL. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I'd think the closest would be 720/60 in SQ mode. . .Don't quote me on that though; as my EX rarely leaves 1080/24 'cept for "high speed" stuff.

Thanks, Adrian. That's what I was thinking.

I'd just go ahead and try it but I still can't figure out how to open these EX1 files in FCP. Got to page 57 of the FCP For Dummies book and still can't get it to work!

The FCP/UCLA Extension class starts January. <_<

You need to download XDCam Transfer for FCP and you can do it here.

https://servicesplus...are-PMWEX1.aspx

It's the last dowloadable file in the list.

You'll also need at least 6.0.2 FCP, 6.0.4 is recommended, then with the above listed plugin you use the "Log and Transfer" (shift open-apple 8) function as opposed to log and capture. Navigate to the folder containing a card's "BPAV" folder and select it, then all the clips will populate and you can, well log and re-wrap them into .movs.
