Variable shutter angle strobing in post

Im a student filmmaker and currently shooting a 16mm project. In this one sequence I wanted to get that strobing look from a closed down shutter angle, but as I was shooting with the fixed shutter SRII, that wasnt really an option. Is there any way to do this in post?like periodically inserting black frames to simulate the effect?

That wouldn't work the way you're thinking. The narrow shutter angle effect is created by each frame having a very short exposure time to begin with. Each frame is captured with little to no motion blur in it. Additionally, fast motion from one frame to the next is exaggerated because the time between each frame is captured is slightly longer than with a 180 degree shutter, so fast moving objects will appear to "stutter" across the frame. These are really the two keys to creating the effect. You might be able to create it with a still camera in burst mode (provided it can go fast enough) and set the shutter speed to the 1/96 - 1/192 range.
