hey folks, i know there are a lot of people out there that feel the bl is not a good candidate for a super16 conversion. i'm wondering what points make it a hard conversion and what parts are easier. cheers.

What's up Kevin, you asked this question about sixteen months. Here is the thread. The question was answered in great detail.

arri BL... whats everybodys take on making it super16?

With motion picture camera prices falling through the floor, you could probably buy an Arriflex 16SR and have it converted to Super 16 for about the same price as buying an Arriflex 16BL and having it converted to Super 16, and you wouldn't have to deal with blimped lenses and the like.

The other thing that was not mentioned in the thread I linked to above is lenses. Okay, let's say you have your Arriflex 16BL converted to Super 16 and whomever does the conversion works around all the problems listed already, then what are you going to shoot with. Neither the Zeiss 10-100 T3.1 nor the Angenieux 12-120 T2.2 (the two most common lenses for the Arriflex 16BL) will cover Super 16. So what lens are you going to use and how are you going to blimp the lens?

Doesn't make sense to me.

Best,
-Tim

Regular 16 is nice. You can get an excellent R16 camera with good lenses dirt cheap and make wonderful pictures with it.

Or buy a camera that is native S16 or already a converted R16 with the proper lenses.

Fewer headaches are best, then you can concentrate on making your movie!
