I went to college for film but haven't had much luck getting a career started and have had horrible jobs since then but somehow have managed to survive in NYC(guess that makes me a true New Yorker). I was thinking of taking this course/workshop this weekend but haven't found too much research on whether or not it would be worth it for me to hone the DP craft. Am I just wasting money?

It sounds more a community based media workshop rather than a place where you train for the industry.

I'd suggest checking out somewhere like the International Film Workshops. I don't know about now, but when I attended these workshops there were quite a few people from the N.Y industry attending, many wanting to pass their AC tests etc.
