hey folks i was just wondering if anybody has had much experience with the 12.5-100mm zoom.

does it cover super16 fully?

is the lens sharp? how does it compare to the 16-100?

thanks folks.

There are three versions -

the PTL, which is most like the POE 16-100 with its 2 blade auto iris (with its funky bokeh), expos-o-meter and wotnot...

Then there is the preset iris version and the standard version with aspheron back focus doohickey.

The PTL I have does not cover S16 at the wide end unless you dick about with the Aspheron knob, but then your focal plane will move when you zoom, usually not helpful!

A mates standard Aspheron version appears to cover a little more than my PTL...

As for optically, hmmm - no side by side comparisons have been made on our steam so no idea, they both are pretty good, sharp enough yes - the 12.5-100 is newer ;)

Bolex used to modify them to cover S16 but have no parts left now (there was an element swap, most likely the rear thingywot one) - I've never seen a Bolex modified version on eBay.
