Hello,

Ive been recently given an advice by one individual on regards of getting your foot-in the door as a camera assistant for a Production Company.

What are your thoughts, and has anyone heard of anyone interning as a camera assistant full-timefor a production company?
Is that a good way to go?

Ive been suggested to work and save money for 6-8 month period, (money to live on), then send a package with your resume, and cover letter to the President of your chosen Production Company, stating that you wish to work for free,
for half a year or so.

How high are the odds of it working out?
Has anyone went thought that approach, if so, what would be your comments.

thank you all

I don't know of any production companies that employ ANY camera personnel on a staff basis, let alone a camera intern. To get on projects as a camera intern or trainee, it will be freelance on a film-by-film basis.

I don't know too many long term production companies. When films go into production, the company is formed and when it is over it normally dissolves. I suggest working at a rental company like Panavision or Otto Nemenz. No need to intern when you can get paid.
