I know that the camera gate needs to be widened when using Ultra 16mm...so doesn't that mean that a wider stock would be used? Or are S16 stocks used for the Ultra 16mm process?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Bill,

Super 16 and Ultra 16 all use standard Kodak or Fuji 16mm film.

Technically they all use 16mm stock yes, but it depends on the perforated sides. 16mm stock with 2 perforated sides cannot be used for S16, but can be used on R16 and U16. Otherwise, yes, they can be used interchangeably.

The stock is the same, you just put a wider image on it using the area that would contain a soundtrack in a print. And some area between the perfs in Ultra 16.
