"reversal" film is the same as using "slide" film in a stills camera.

The film passing through the camera gets developed to produce a positive image that is directly ready for projection. There aren't many choices of reversal motion picture film.

Using "negative" film means the film that passes through the camera is developed to produce an inverted 'negative' image. Before this can be projected it needs to be printed onto a second length of film that will further invert the image to finally arrive at a positive image that can be projected. There are many different choices of negative motion picture film available.

Both reversal and negative film can be telecined if an electronic version is required.

Per Forum rules, on this site your Display Name is supposed to be your actual first & last name, not something like luminousray.

PS: Reversal films are much more contrasty than negative films. Exposures and lighting have to carefully controlled. Reversal films are close to video in latitude. If you're not careful highlights overexpose, details in shadow disappear, etc.
