I am researching motion picture production in 1939. Can anyone help me with what cameras, blimps, heads, dollies, lights- basically any piece of motion picture equipment that might have been on the set of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington? Also, any place some of this equipment is on display?

Thanks.

Read Barry Salt's "Film Style and Technology: History and Analysis" for starters:
http://www.amazon.co...s/dp/095090662X

Also look at "In The Picture: Production Stills from the TCM Archives"
http://www.amazon.co...S...5406&sr=1-2

American Cinematographer Magazine from that period is also useful for photos of film shoots.

Also see if a library near you has bound back issues of 'The Journal of the SMPE', the original name of 'SMPTE Journal'

Also see if they have the 1939 edition of 'The American Cinematographer & Reference Guide'.
