Hi guys!

I am applying for MA Cinematography this year, and spent last several month shooting a short films. Now I am editing my showreel.
And I thought, may be it is a good idea to watch a previously applied showreels.
If anyone has a showreel that used for applying to a film school, please, send a link!

It will be a great help and guide for me!

Thank you very much!

Hi Sasha,

I have just finished my showreel and application form for the MA at the NFTS as well and have sent it off today. If you go on their website then they have an overall cinematography showreel and a few clips from previous students work, but in terms of a students entire application showreel I don't think they will publicise those I'm afraid.

How are you finding the application?

Jay

Hi

I have also recently applied. Here is a link to my recent cinematography showreel. This is not the reel I sent to the NFTS as they were looking for 15 mins.

I would also appreciate any comment on my reel. I am 22 and I have just finished art college.

Best,

Ian.

Heya.
I received the letter from NFTS two days ago. Unfortunately it didn't work out for me.
My cinematography showreel I've handed in for my application can be viewed online at:

The password to access it is: holymoly

I'd be glad to get some feedback!
Thanks

Very good showreels! Thank you for reply!

I've also been refused. And now analyzing why. I thing they are looking for the style.
This is very important thing for a DP and photographer. This is the reason.

Did anyone proceed to a workshop or interview?

Are you talking about an individual style which would make your work distinguishable from other DPs or what do you mean?

What I heard during the open day at NFTS and by other people over and over again is that the judges pay most attention to the question if the applicant is able to tell a story with his images. That's why they appreciate to get a showreel which contains clips from one coherent project rather than a funky showreel mixed with many different shots from all sorts of projects which have no relationship.

Yes, I think it is very important for tham that DP has a personal style, but for sure I will never know what they are looking for in applicants.
And also visualizing your story is very important, so may be it is reasonable to have a long pieces from your film rather than a short clips edited in a "funky" showreel.
