Hi, complete newbie to cinematic lighting here (as well as this forum, hi!).

I'm looking to light a ballroom-type scene for a production. I'll be using an HV40 camcorder with sparse attachments save a lens hood and wide-angle lens attachment if necessary. I have a lot of After Effects experience, which I can use for color/light touchups if doing so after acquiring the footage will help ease the lighting difficulty.

The scene environment itself will be a completely dark dance studio with a lights setup plugged into outlets. There will be many extras in the background, so I need them visible while focusing on characters dancing/sitting closer to the camera. To augment my explanations, I'm going for something similar to the bottom left screenshot in this jpeg.

I'm on a DIY budget, and I need to be able to set up the lighting in an hour or two when I get on the set. Is there any way I could go to home depot or some lighting/hardware store and achieve this?

Thanks a million for any and all feedback!
