How did they do the POV shots in Being John Malkovich?

As the title states, I am wondering if anyone knows how they accomplished the point of view shots (Being in John Malkovich's eyes) in the film. I want to do something similar in a short I am making. Was it a camera strapped to the side of the actors head?
