I just found unopened rolls of 5217, 5218, 5299 - 1000ft rolls in the back of a closet. Also several cans of short ends. I havn't shot on film in quite a while - I suspect they are 4-5 years old. Think they are good still?

They could very well be OK. Go in a darkroom, take a few feet from each and load some still cassettes. Shoot and process test stills, and you'll know exactly what you've got.

Or call up a lab and ask for a clip test. Send them the stock, they'll develop it and let you know how much base fog it's built up.


I've shot VERY old film before, with "interesting" results (normally good in my book).

They're probably no good, so you should just send them all to me. ;)

Seriously though, I second the clip test, especially for the higher speed stuff which tends to be the most "volatile," compared to the low speed which is pretty hearty stuff. But based on stuff I've seen shot on decades old stock, I'll be you'll be pleasantly surprised.
