I was very sad to read that he has recently passed away. Paynter was one of my favourite DPs of all time, and, like the late Alan Hume, for me seemed to have an especially brilliant run of my childhood favourites from around 1980-1985. I actually kind of wish he had shot more, especially for John Landis and Frank Oz.

I have read that he has a cameo in Landis' new British shot movie Burke and Hare (DP John Mathieson).

Bob Paynter , was at British Transport films at the same time as David Watkin and both worked in the camera dept. I met him once on a commercial ,fantastic fun and a great Dop . Must say though he did waste to much time working with Michael Winner !
