Hi, after gaining much experience shooting digital video, I would like to educate myself on how to shoot film.

I plan to gain experience on-set and attend workshops but I would like to start with some books. Can anybody recommend a good book that covers all aspects of shooting on film (cameras, operation, film stocks, processing, etc)?

Through my research on the list of books pinned in this forum and elsewhere, I have discovered two books that may provide what I am looking for...

Practical Cinematography by Paul Wheeler
http://www.amazon.co...88733979&sr=8-1

and

Filmmaking A to Z: 35mm Filmmaking
http://www.amazon.co...88733957&sr=8-1

Any opinion on those books? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

The book I co-wrote with Kris Malkiewicz, "Cinematography (Third Edition)" covers 16mm basics particularly for the student filmmaker.

For the non-technical aspects of working in the industry so that you actually have a viable opportunity to USE the technical knowledge you obtain, I recommend the book I wrote, "What I Really Want to Do: On Set in Hollywood."

What good is technical know-how if you can't use it to make a viable living?
