New to broadcast color

I am using a calibrated 27" iMac display. What is preventing this from being used as a broadcast monitor? I would think if the monitor is calibrated with a good contrast ratio in tandem with the colorist tools inside FCP it might be doable.

I am new to the subject of broadcast color, so if anyone has any recommendations on books or resources I would appreciate it.
