Is anyone familiar with the TV frame lines for the Canon Scoopic 16M?

Is this an adequate enough substitute to use, instead of taping guidelines for a 16:9 ratio?

Actually it is very close; ignoring the left and right sides of course. I've used them that way for years and never had an issue.
