can you use a DSLR light meter for shooting with a Bolex?

Hi everyone! This is my first post.
I have a Bolex I want to shoot with but I don't have a light meter. Is it possible to take out my DSLR (Canon 7D) and use that to find out what settings I need? Or is it completely different?
