Sony claim they'll be in a position to start producing SR (and other, presumably) tape formats by "early summer". Here's hoping.

More anon about their new 3D stuff, which I thought looked better than Panasonic's 3D stuff.

When does the Japanese Summer start?

June 20-something in the Northern Hemisphere, but they are closer to the equator, the equivalent latitude to what, Spain, South Carolina?

And Phil, at least in my market, 3D movies are doing the same Exact NOSEDIVE they did in the '80s, '60s, '50s. Why would they be in a hurry to bring out a product that may not have any market at all pretty soon?

Japan spans pretty much the same latitudes as the continental U.S. The Southern tip of the big islands is about 31 degrees North, roughly the Georgia/Florida border. The Northernmost end of their big land mass is about 45 North, equivalent to Ottawa, Canada. Tokyo is about 35.6 North, equivalent to Raleigh, NC, and Sendai/Tagajyo where the SR plant is, is 38.5 North, same as Washingon, DT. Europe is farther North, 45 North would be Turin, Italy, and 31 North misses Europe altogether, more like Alexandria, Egypt.

Summer technically starts the same time everywhere, it's not dependent on latitude. It's when the sun reaches its Northernmost point, and lines up with some stones at Stonehenge....
