Hello,

I want to make wildlife docos in wild, remote areas as a career. I am considering the Documentary workshop (4 weeks)and Widlife documentary workshop (1 week) at Maine Media, taught by Tom Donohue of Laughing Dog Productions and Kate Raisz, respectively. I have 5 questions for you:

-Do you think workshops such as these are the best way to get class-room training for wildlife filmmaking?

-Does anyone have experience with either the Documentary or Wildlife workshops at Maine Media?

-How can I best prepare before-hand to get the most out of these classes? (books, films, ect.)

-Does anyone know anything about Tom Donohue or Kate Raisz?

-Do you have any advice for a newbe attending workshops on filmmaking?

Thank you very much.
-Austin

Hi Austin:
Thanks for looking into the film class offerings at Maine Media Workshops!

Both Tom and Kate are great filmmakers and instructors.

Since Tom's 4-week workshops is coming up quickly, I'm happy to put you in touch with him via email if you'll send me contact info at kfletcher@mainemedia.edu.

He's just returned to the U.S. from six weeks living with and filming Muay Thai boxers in Northern Thailand to attend Silverdocs this week.

The 4-week class will be an intensive, hands-on experience. You and Tom can discuss how to involve the wildlife aspect of the work.

I can also put you in touch with Kate to ask about her workshop, specifically designed for wildlife doc.

Best regards-
Kate Fletcher
