Lately the footage counter (displays meters shot) of by beloved little Arri 16S has been giving me trouble - it does not count any more! The frame counter beneath it works just fine.

Is this a known problem and is there an easy fix?

Greetings,
Marc

Marc,

The little counting wheel is made of plastic (or some kind of bake-lite on the older ones) and it is very brittle. There are two little plastic "teeth" on the back side of that wheel and they engage with the spindle. If they have sheered off, or if the camera is in serious need of an overhaul, I can see that little plastic wheel getting stuck. The gear train that drives that little gear could be jammed or broken, but that would have taken some abuse to break that drive mechanism.

A thorough CLA may fix the problem if it isn't a broken wheel.

Best,
-Tim
