Hello everyone, I have a rather interesting question that could help out other young independent filmmakers like myself. How does anyone get insurance to rent equipment from rental houses since most of these rental houses require proof of insurance? Even though most rental houses are different I would believe that the process is similar. I think it is very important to know what to do and how to give rental houses business in the future. So any pointers?

The usual method is to get production insurance for your film. A number of insurance companies specialize in this area, this also offers third party cover and other protection. Another way is, if you own equipment, you can have your insurance cover extended to cover rented equipment.

Ask the rental house for a recommendation. In the old days, some of them used to offer the option of including insurance in the rental price, much like rental cars still do. Maybe they still do, but I haven't had to deal with it in a long time.
