Is it possible, by some external device or post-production method, to have sync sound using a camera that does not have crystal sync?
Speaking of my own case, I have an analog audio recorder with crystal sync and am considering buying a 16mm camera with no crystal sync. This camera though is sold with an external sync module, but I'm not certain what that is.

Hi David,

I've done it before, but with short shots-no longer than 10 seconds. The longer ones will drift and it is frustrating. It depends on how your feel about things being "close" as far as sync. Some people can tell and others can't. It was more of a test for me and even though I got close with it, I still opted to get a crystal sync camera when I had the money. I did it by changing the clip speed with the software.

Good luck,
Tom

It can take quite a bit of time syncing dialogue in post.

If the camera has a sync tone output (50Hz or 60Hz)on say an Arri 16 BL, you can run a sync lead to the recorder's pilotone input (assuming it's a Nagra or similar).
