I have a Sankyo 501 Projector which should allow for Super 8 and Single 8. As far as I can remember I have never been able to project Single 8.

Where could I get the necessary parts to convert from Super 8 to Single 8? Are they still available?

You should have no problems projecting single 8 film with a super 8 projector. The perforation size and position is identical. The only difference between super and single 8 is the thickness of the film, and this shouldn't cause compatibility issues. Is your Sankyo projector a dual guage model by any chance? If so, then it may be set for regular 8mm which would cause problems when trying to run super 8 and single 8.

Barbara,
Super 8mm and Single 8mm film is the same thing ( after processing ), but to clarify your query, Super 8 and Single 8 film is loaded in different camera cartridges for shooting - thus the cameras are not compatible.

Super 8 is loaded in a co-axial cartridge ( to run fully in forward direction ) whereas Single 8 is loaded in a 'reel to reel' cassette ( rather like a ‘regular’ motion picture camera magazine ) and could run in either direction if the camera had facilities to do so.

Hope that helps,
John S
