Renowned Cinematographer Andrew Laszlo, ASC passed away on October 7th, 2011.

Some of the films that he was DP on were:

The Night They Raided Minsky's
The Out-of-Towners
The Owl and The Pussycat
Shogun
Southern Comfort
Rambo: First Blood
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier


There is a threadbare Wikipedia entry for Mr. Lazlo at:

I would request that those of you in this newsgroup who worked with him or respected his work

That's very sad.

I took a DP master class of his in Maine in 1996 and he was a great teacher. He had tons of stories from Star Trek, Inner Space, Southern Comfort (one of my favourite movies) etc. Nice, calm and fun guy.

SHOGUN. It's incredible what he achieved on that budget. What he captured was magic.

I was a Cinematography student at Montana State University-Bozeman back in 1996. Andy came in and held an Advanced Cinematography Class for Seniors, which I wasn't then, but got to see him work. He was gracious and very nice in explaning what he was doing and why.....I learned AlOT !!!!
