Hello

Thanks for your time.

I need to light a candelit scene, where the light either comes entirely from candle sources, or appears to come entirely from candle sources. (Links are to reference images)

I am to be shooting 7D with:
14mm F 2.8
35mm F 1.4
50mm F 1.4
85mm F 1.8
100mm F 2.8
135mm F 2.0

Do you think candles could provide enough light without pushing the iso too much?
Or would I need to light it and make it appear motivated from the candles? Any tips or tricks to achieve this?

Or any suggestions.
Anything that you think could prove helpfull

Thank you so much

I would say it depends on how you'd want it to look. I've shot candles alone, single wicked, just on 500T wide open (1.3) and it works if it's ok the rest of the frame goes really dark and your skin-tones are a bit under.
I'd look into hiding peanut bulbs in the candles somewhere, or use something pretty small like a 150 just to boost yourself up a bit; makes it easier for the focus puller too!
If you're on a wide shot, you're going to need to build an ambiance in the room if you really want to see anything. Now, of course, with digital, you have extra wiggle in your shadows -v- film where you get that wiggle in your highlights, but in truth, with a camera such as the 7D, it's easy enough to sit in a dark room with someone and a candle or two that you really should test it yourself and see if it suits your taste for the film.
Also, don't forget how what's in the room will influence how you perceive the darkness, or lack there of, created by the candle source. And, if possible, see if you can track down 3 wicked candles for that extra oomph.
