Hello!

I am curious about the question how movies like "The Girl with the dragoon tatoo", "Anonymous", "Drive" or "The 3 Musketeers" achieve their 1:235 aspect ratio apparently without shooting anamorphic. Did they just crop the picture in postproduction or is there another way to do that? I did not find any answers on the internet. Did someone know or read about it? Thanks for answers!

Not sure about the Alexa, but last I heard, the native aspect ratio of the Red sensor was 2:1. So there is a little cropping done in post most of the time -- either from the sides for 1.85:1, or from the top and bottom for 2.39:1.

Both RED and Alexa have optional viewfinder markings for 2.35:1, making framing for a post production crop very easy.
