Hi,

First time writing a post in cinematography.com but I've been following the page for some time now and really appreciate the opinions of the people posting here. Having said that... I'm thinking of moving to the States (maybe LA?), what should one do to start working in the film industry beeing a foreigner (I come from Spain)? I finished film studies about 2 years ago and I've got like one year of working experience, do you think it's possible to find work in the lightning or camera department? Do you have to be in a union? What are the steps for visa as a freelance?

Thanks

PS. Please forgive my english...

How on earth will you get a work permit for starters?

Unless they've changed the laws, you cannot freelance on a work visa (or without one). You need a one year contract with a work sponsor in order to get a work visa. But why ask filmmakers such an important legal question?
