Does anyone have a good recommendation for an inexpensive quality microphone for audio?

Blue Spark run through a PreSonus tube preamp sounds nice for the price.

Spark through a PreSonus DP

My mouth wasn't near the mic when I was recording this. The mic was aimed at the 12th fret of my guitar. This was 9 months ago, I can play quite a bit better now.

It's really only good for recording indoor music and V.O., if you want an outdoor shotgun mic try a Sennheiser K3, there have been several versions of them over the years, check eBay.

Regards, Tom

Hey Patrick,

If it is for indoor, the Oktava MK-012 is decent and will run you about $250. It is not so great for outdoor (wind really messes with it) If you have more to spend then the Audix SCX1-HC is great I've heard.

Even as a sound designer/composer, I don't have money to buy the best mics and I have produced a lot of great results from Audio-Techinica. They have a lot of great budget mics that compete with the higher-ups. Also, eBay is worth checking out for used high-budget mics.

Best Wishes,

What is the purpose of the mic? Dialogue on set? Voice over recording? Inside? Outside?

It's like asking "what lense should I use?"
