I'm applying to the FTMA in CT. This is the program's first year. There is something like 30 students total. They primarily use Canon 5D Mark II. Is this a good camera for a "film conservatory?"

Allows you to practise, but a bit of an oversell in their "Overview". It's at the lower end of the HD camera spectrum, but some higher end productions have used them for particular reasons. There are now other options, so budget would seem to be the main reason for using them now. If you're looking for cinematography as a career, I'd probably check out other places.

Well that camera is not manufactured to be a "cinema camera." Personally I would insist on a school that uses either film or a proper digital cinema camera like an Alexa or at the very least a RED.

Not sure what you'll learn that will be of any use with a Canon 5D?
