Confused on Incident reading???

This is surely a stupid question but I've read an abundance on this but am still a little confused do I need to compensate for the reading given by an incident meter off a key for a  Caucasian face?, I know I need to do this with the reflective and spot meter so as to compensate for the reflective value of the a Caucasian face. My instinct says I should as the subject still has to reflect the light back, is this correct?
