Sometimes I see a little display with changing numbers on professional cameras:

What is it? Light meter?

Hard to tell from the picture but it looks like a cinetape. What is does is tell the focus puller how far a subject is. Kinda like an invisible, laser tape measure!

That's a cine-tape. It measures distance to what is in front of the lens for the ACs.

What if the subject is behind some object that is closer to the lens?
