Just got this email form rental house:

Hey Adam,

So I got in contact with a client that has the 16mm lens out on rental currently and he informed me that he will be bringing it in Tuesday afternoon.

I have a 16mm in PL mount, and your camera is in Bayo mount.

Perhaps you want a 9.5mm or a 50mm instead of that 16mm?

Or if you really need that 16mm, then I will convert the lens.

Just let me know beforehand so I don't have to go through the converting process.

Hope to hear from you soon.

A) IS this normal? I rented these lenses. Specifically for these dates, wpuld have went to another rental house of they didnt have them.

B) I need to be able to change lenses on the fly, is this conversion going to slow that down?

thanks

In the past, I would recommend going in in person and analyzing the pieces that are supposed to go together.

However, if you cannot do that, than images of both the lens. camera mount and adapter should be being swapped between you and the rental house so that you are both in agreement as to how the situation is to proceed.

You're a bit vague on detail, so it's hard to know exactly what the problem is. You rented which lenses for what dates? The email mentions a 16mm which they will convert to bayonet mount for you. I'm assuming the lens which will be returned tuesday is already bayo, and you want to pick up before then, so they're just checking whether you still want that focal length so they don't convert another PL one to bayo needlessly.

Converting between mounts is usually pretty straight-forward, if these are Zeiss Super Speeds the mounts just swap over. The only issue is that the back-focus shimming may need a slight adjustment, but that's easily checked on a collimator or test projector.

There's no light loss or any other issue associated with this conversion, it just lets you mount the lens on a camera with the older mount system.
