Are the older Panavision magazines actually dirty?

In a lot of BTS footage I've seen of films that used the Gold II and Platinum cameras, they use older mags and for some reason, they look dirty. Kinda weird, especially when it's BTS footage of a movie that was made close to the release of those cameras/mags. Anybody know why this is?

They aren't really dirty. The older mags had a textured surface and some are gold, not white, and now worn, but they are clean when rented out (the surface can certainly get dirty on a production).  You may be seeing that textured surface they used to use.
