I'm getting prepared to shoot a feature on 35mm black-and-white later next year, and wanted to start sending some tests out to a few labs.

I've had excellent results from Alpha Cine in Seattle, but, being in Pittsburgh, the shipping is killing me. I've had some so-so results from Cinelab (albeit on 16mm b+w a couple years ago).

I'm looking into Colorlab and Video Film Solutions in Rockville, MD. Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with any of these labs or others?

Thanks!

Now that Alpha is gone, Videofilmsolutions.com is my goto lab for 5222 and anything else besides Super 8.

I'm in the exact same boat - I had a great deal at Alpha Cine for a 35mm B&W feature and then they closed their doors.  I looked into Colorlab but it was way too expensive for our little group - nearly double what Alpha Cine was going to charge me.

I'm talking to FotoKem and I'm going to talk to Cinelab, too.  Cinelab seems the most indie-friendly, but I don't know anyone who has used them until now...

Talk to Tommy at Videofilmsolutions.com. He may have the flexibility to work another deal for you, plus he can do release prints and offer technical advice that may be very useful.

I've had great results from Fotokem and found Andrew Oran to be very helpful even on our music video budget. We shot 5222.
