I'm looking for a replacement cover or covers for the 1.35V battery compartment for the light meter on Nikon R8 Super cameras.  This is a round plastic cover with a serrated edge that, after a while, seems to seize in place.  It's difficult to remove and easily broken.

I just bought a R8 yesterday.

I made a trench in the center of the battery cover to let it be able to turned by a coin. the cover is very thick,  I made the trench almost 4mm deep.

And then I sprayed some lubricate oil(W40) alone the border of the cover,

After these works, it was opened by a coin very easily.

It's a good suggestion.  In fact, it seems the weakness of the design became apparent while the camera was still in production, and later models were fitted with a battery compartment cover having just such a 'coin slot'.

I have the same issue with my R8 I am planning to send it to Willard Engineering to have the camera serviced, he also does a battery replacement with a voltage regulator.

I've heard positive things about Willard.  When you say "battery replacement with a voltage regulator" do you mean the MR-9 device (1.5V to 1.35V adapter) or something else?  As far as the battery compartment cover goes, I'm thinking about contacting S. K. Grimes to see if they can produce a sensibly designed replacement at an affordable price.  The original covers are just a disaster.
