Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea how to light a small alcove outside an office at night. Shooting a short film where two smokers go outside and have a conversation in a tiny alcove at night. There is no light from the street lights that fills in here at all. Its a really tight space but I want it to look light beautiful street lamp lighting. Any ideas? Shoot is this weekend!

Thank you

Well what I would do is a strong back light (perhaps with a PAR 64 VNSP though Storarro Yellow, which I like a lot) and a soft frontal fill though maybe a 6x6 of lite grid also with some yellow or CTO on it played in. The backlight will light up the smoke and separate them from the BG and the fill will give them a nice catch-light in the eye.

Thanks heaps for this -the only problem is that behind the characters is a glass door to the corridor that leads to the office, so I can't put any lights behind them as they will be right in shot. So I basically can only light them from the front or above.

I like your idea though, really appreciate your help:)

Put it up above-- or use the "inside lights" which may be floro and cyan to motivate a cool backlight to them-- v- the warm frontal soft fill.
