With NAB coming up, there is a rumour of a 6k Arri, with beta testing happening..

Supposedly it's being used on the new Tarzan movie at Pinewood already.

I'm going to come clean and say that I'm seriously underwhelmed by this rumour.

I'm personally hoping for a 4K Alexa and there are still rumours that such as camera might show up too.

*fingers crossed*

Kinda hoping that the 6K Alexa is just gossip but I have a feeling it's real.

If correct, I suspect it's matching the 6k Dragon, although with a larger sensor.

I'm starting to get really, deeply uninterested in this stuff.

Okay, more resolution. Bigger chip. Fine. Lovely. Won't actually make movies much better.

To be fair, it could be that it will make incredible images, I'll have to see it, and that will count for A LOT but the jury is out on that one for now.

The thing is that a huge sensor like that isn't going to make things easier, which probably means that this is only going to be used on really huge productions...who might as well be shooting on actual film anyway... so the whole thing starts to become a bit of an exercise in fancy technology for the sake of it.

It could be that the huge sensor will be accompanied by an increase in speed I suppose, so that everyone can just stop the lenses right down?

On the other hand, I kinda hope it's a huge mainstream hit and everyone starts to dump their now hugely devalued Cooke S4's...

...Somehow that doesn't seem all that likely tho.

I just have mixed feelings about it all. I'm hoping this is AS WELL as a 4K Alexa as opposed to instead of a 4K Alexa.

But what the hey, 4K Varicam is on its way! :)
