That was great, thanks.  It's so interesting how shooting in that prison informed so much of his later work.

It pervaded virtually his entire filmography but is most obvious in Thief and Heat, of course.  One of the most talented filmmakers out there.  I still have yet to see The Jericho Mile, where it all started. 

 

There is a great book I am slowly making my way through you may be interested in simply titled Michael Mann.

I watched this over a year ago and I learned something from the interview section that has helped me in a big way towards selling my next project.  It just goes to show that even if you pick up just one piece of information from one of these it is well worth the time.

 

Youtube also has the producing documentary for Heaven's Gate.  The documentary on the making of Dances With Wolves is another truly fascinating story.
