I haven't really used zooms very much and I'm curious what are the standard differences in how they flare/veil. Is there a major difference?

any examples maybe?

There are a lot of zooms and a lot of primes, all with different flare characteristics so it's easier to speak in generalities until you do your own tests, though I'm sure if you do some searching online you may find someone else's tests.

The most obvious generality is that zooms have a lot more elements in them which can create more complex multi-layered flares.
