Slow Zoom on 25-250 ...do I need a motor?

HI I was just curious how easy it is to manual zoom an old cine zoom lens for a clean slow zoom in.

 

are these effects usually done with motors/servo systems?

 

it will be a slow zoom over 5-10second going from about 85-150mmm

With 35mm zooms a motor is the usual method for a smooth zoom. On 16mm zooms fluid drives were also available, but I've never seen on a 35mm lens. If stuck you could try using a long zoom bar,
